The Mavic Aksium road built wheels are a proven and reliable set for everyday training and endurance riding on the road. The construction emphasises high component durability, a long service life and minimal need for regular servicing.
The basis of the set is rims made of S6000 Aluminum aluminium alloy with an internal width of 17 mm and a profile 21 mm deep. The wider internal dimension allows safe fitting of wider road tyres, which in practice means higher riding comfort, better damping of small bumps and more confident tracking. The rims have a reliable pinned joint and reinforced spoke drilling and are designed for traditional tube-type tyres (Tubetype) in combination with classic rim brakes.
High stiffness and instant transfer of pedalling force are ensured by steel spokes with a straight head (Straight pull). Seating the spokes straight in the hub eliminates the risk of breakage at the bend and increases the overall strength of the lacing. The front wheel and the non-cassette side of the rear wheel use round spokes in radial lacing, while the loaded cassette side has flat spokes and a 2× crossed lacing for maximum torsional stiffness. Steel nipples with the self-locking ABS system prevent unintentional loosening during demanding use.
The hubs with steel axles spin on quality sealed industrial QRM bearings, which guarantee smooth running and reliable sealing against the ingress of dirt and water. The proven freehub body with the FTS-L system is compatible with Shimano HG and SRAM cassettes for 8 to 11 speeds.
