A new downhill tyre named the Assegai. Greg Minnaar, three-time world champion, three-time overall World Cup winner and a legend of the sport, even collaborated on the development of the new tread.
"My vision was to design a tyre that reflects Maxxis iconic treads," says Greg Minnaar. "I started in the centre of the pattern with a combination of the Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. The reason was that the DHF rolls well and gives confidence on hard ground, in corners, on wet roots and rocks. The DHR II added speed and aggressiveness under braking.
Later we added extra teeth to get a better wheel response under load and a consistent feel all the way to the side knobs. I cant forget my favourite tyre either – the High Roller. Together with the Maxxis experts we created reworked side knobs with very similar characteristics to the original. But with the new support they are excellent at carving corners on flat ground.
Finally I took the tread height from the Shorty. As the knobs are well supported, the additional height can bite into the ground in dry and dusty conditions."
