Maxxis MINION DHR II tyre 27.5x2.8 3CT EXO+ TR folding (black)
A legend among tyres, the standard by which other tyres are measured. The DHF uses angled knobs that reduce rolling resistance, with milled grooves that increase the number of contact edges, providing better control in a straight line and precise cornering.
TR (Tubeless Ready) – tubeless is the law!
Todays world is extremely favourable to tubeless systems using sealant. Maxxis TR tyres fully match this trend. On the one hand they are considerably lighter than the previously used LUST (Light UST) variants, yet their construction and bead shape perfectly meet the needs of tubeless setups. Tubeless tyres can be run at lower pressure, which increases the contact patch and the treads ability to follow the terrain, while removing the risk of a pinch puncture, i.e. damage to the tube. Last but not least, weight is saved, and without a separate tube the friction inside the wheel is reduced too.
EXO Protection
In the world of trail and all-mountain fun, riders often move over rocks and among other sharp obstacles, so appropriate sidewall protection must be kept in mind. The EXO Protection solution uses an additional layer of extra-durable material that protects the tyre around its entire circumference, especially against abrasion and cuts. This material is also highly flexible, so ride characteristics are not affected – only the weight increases slightly.
Dual, Single and 3C compounds
It all starts with the basic variant labelled Single, meaning one compound for the whole tread, which however does not occur on Maxxis sport tyres. The starting point is the more advanced Dual compound, which uses rubber of two hardnesses. Specifically a firmer centre and inner structure of the tyre guaranteeing stability and low rolling resistance, plus softer sides and a surface layer for maximum grip when biting and in corners.
The showcase of Maxxis technology is tyres combining three rubber hardnesses on one tread, the 3C range. The basis is always one harder and more durable "carrier compound" plus two softer ones that guarantee maximum grip and tyre stability. Maxxis offers three variants of this technology adapted for different purposes. In the sporting world only the 3C Maxx Speed version occurs, focused on quality traction and low rolling resistance, or in other words high speed.
A true speciality, or the proverbial cherry on the cake, is the Exception Series (EXC) version, featuring a high TPI value and a softer compound, which makes the tyre lighter, rolls more easily and at the same time offers top-class traction.
