The 29" Mavic CROSSMAX XL built wheelset is designed for demanding trail and all-mountain riding, where high durability, stiffness and reliability off-road are required. It is based on 30 mm wide rims made of a lightweight and strong Maxtal aluminium alloy with a Black Shield finish, which effectively protects the surface from scratches and impacts from flying stones.
The wheels use UST Tubeless Ready tubeless technology with integrated Fore nipples. The nipple threads are formed directly in the lower wall of the rim, which keeps the upper bridge of the rim intact. The rim therefore stays fully sealed even without a tubeless tape, which simplifies tyre fitting and increases the stiffness of the whole construction.
The front and rear lacing consists of 24 flat, double-butted steel straight pull spokes with a straight head. The double non-contact crossing prevents the spokes from rubbing against each other and eliminates unwanted noise under power. The hubs with an aluminium axle in Boost dimensions (15×110 mm at the front and 12×148 mm at the rear) are fitted with sealed QRM Auto industrial bearings with automatic play compensation, which ensure smooth running without frequent adjustment.
The rear hub is fitted with a SRAM XD freehub body with quick engagement thanks to the Instant Drive 360 ratchet system. Brake discs are mounted using the 6 bolt standard.
