Because we should all try to reduce our impact on the environment, Effetto Mariposa began working on a plant-based sealant that would be both natural and very effective against punctures - just like Caffélatex. Development took more than two years, but we can now say that Végétalex has exceeded our expectations.

Plant-based puncture repair

Most tyre sealants use slowly biodegradable liquid polymers (such as natural or synthetic latex) to repair punctures – Végétalex instead contains only plant-based particles and fibres - finely ground olive stones and cellulose fibres - to provide a perfect plugging effect on a puncture. This mixture, held together by xanthan gum (made from simple sugars), quickly and permanently seals punctures from small tyre porosities to larger punctures (up to 5 mm).

Extremely durable

Durability was one of the priorities of the "Végétalex" project. Because Végétalex does not rely on the hardening of a liquid polymer to repair punctures, but on a sophisticated mixture of various shapes and sizes of natural particles with xanthan gum, it has a long "active" life inside tyres.

Starting from 3 months in extreme conditions (very porous tyres in hot weather and a small amount of sealant), Végétalex will maintain puncture repairs in most tyres for more than 6 months. This also makes it suitable for use in inner tubes.

Lightweight

Végétalex has been finely tuned for high mobility, so a small amount is enough to quickly fill the inner space of the tyre.

For Végétalex we recommend using approximately 20% more than the amount recommended by the iCaffelatex application for Caffélatex. For example, for a 29 × 2.10 (54-622) tubeless tyre, iCaffélatex recommends at least 70 ml (approx. 2 1/2 oz.) of Caffélatex or 84 ml (approx. 3 oz.) of Végétalex.

Biodegradable and completely plastic-free

Végétalex contains no ammonia or other aggressive chemicals and is neither toxic nor corrosive. Végétalex contains no macro- or microplastics, no rubber particles (note: recycled rubber decomposes very slowly!), no aramid fibres (which remain in the environment for a long time…): all Végétalex ingredients are highly biodegradable. Végétalex does not trigger allergic reactions in people allergic to products made from natural rubber latex. It may, however, contain traces of nuts.

Note: As with all other sealants, aluminium rims may oxidise (due to the water content) if the metal surface of the rim is not anodised/protected or covered with tubeless tape.

Low maintenance

The ability to "forget" about the tyre sealant is the dream of tubeless tyre users.

Especially those of us who dont ride very often wonder whether the sealant in our tyres is still liquid (or not), which can spoil the enjoyment of riding.

We say Végétalex is ideal for e-bikes because with an e-bike you often have to deal with maintenance, so a low-maintenance sealant is certainly a welcome change. Thanks to more structured tyres, such as e-bike-specific tyres, Végétalex easily lasts a whole season, so you can spend less time maintaining your bike and more time riding.

Easy to clean

Végétalex contains no pigments or fast-setting polymers, so it is very easy to remove from surfaces. Even when dry, Végétalex can be cleaned with soapy water and a brush.

Temperatures and tips for use and storage

Use: -20 / + 50 °C (-4 / + 122 °F)

Storage: -15 / + 30 °C (+ 5 / + 86 °F)

Végétalex lasts 2 years after the packaging is first opened, provided the packaging is properly closed, stored out of direct sunlight and the storage temperature is within the range stated above.

It is important to shake the Végétalex bottle well before use.

If additional protection is needed - for example, several days of riding on rocky and thorny terrain - we recommend adding 30 ml of product to the recommended amount.
