Top-end, most durable Super Steel chainring for 10/11/12-speed chains. It is well known that powerful e-bike motors tend to wear out the drivetrain in a very short time. Accelerated wear always starts with the chainring. That is why Absolute Black developed the "Super Steel" chainring, which, thanks to its incredible durability, could save you 2-3 expensive cassette replacements. By "Super Steel" we mean premium steel that is CNC-machined rather than stamped, then heat-treated and finally given several highly specialised nitriding and carburising surface treatments to achieve an impressive microhardness of 1300HV. The result is a chainring more than four times harder than a standard stamped steel OEM chainring. Compatible only with absoluteBLACK e-bike spiders. Spider sold separately.

WHY DO YOU NEED A SUPER STEEL CHAINRING FOR AN E-BIKE?

Because of the electric motor, an e-bike drivetrain is subjected to more stress and torque than on a regular bike. This extra stress causes accelerated wear of all drivetrain components, especially the chainring.

All OE (original equipment) chainrings currently supplied with e-bikes are made of mild steel, which is softer than the steel used in chains. Because the material is so soft, the chainring teeth are quickly worn and deformed by the chain, which in turn speeds up chain wear and eventually cassette wear. In a way, it is a "symbiotic system" in which each component affects the others. As chainring specialists, Absolute Black knows that increasing chainring hardness can significantly reduce the wear rate of the whole drivetrain. That is why they created the extremely durable Super Steel chainrings for e-bikes!

1. Choose your chainring spider – Depending on the mid-drive motor your e-bike uses, first select the correct mounting interface (Shimano, Specialized, etc.) and then, if necessary, the correct offset (Boost 53/52.5 mm or non-Boost 50 mm). Finally, choose the spider colour and add it to your basket.

2. Choose the Super Steel chainring tooth profile and size – Depending on the chain your e-bike uses, choose between the 10/11/12-speed or 12-speed Shimano HG+ versions. Finally, choose the chainring size and add it to your basket.

SUPER STEEL CHAINRING OXIDATION

Due to the material and manufacturing processes used, surface oxidation (rust) may occasionally appear on the chainring teeth. It has no effect on the structural integrity or performance of the chainring and can easily be wiped off. As a preventive measure, we recommend spraying the steel part of the chainring with silicone spray or wiping it with chain oil from time to time.
