The original Forekaster was designed for wet-weather XC bikes, while the new version is aimed directly at modern short-travel trail bikes (100-130 mm) – the so-called "downcountry" segment. The new Forekaster (July 2022) is intended as a "golden tyre" that rolls faster than the Minion or even the Dissector, but provides more predictable traction when cornering, climbing and braking than the Aspen or Rekon.
