Many modern chains use a so-called “master link” (also known as a “quick link” or “power link”), which allows the chain to be installed and removed without having to push out rivets. The MLP-1.2 Master Link Pliers allow quick and easy removal and fitting of these links. Simply insert the specially shaped jaws into the master link, then squeeze the handles to open it or pull them together to close the link.
MLP-1.2 features
- Compatible with derailleur chains for 5 to 12 speeds that use a master link, including SRAM® eTap® AXS® and Shimano® XTR® 12-speed chains
NOTE: The MLP-1.2 will not remove or install master links that have both pins attached to one plate and a side plate or spring clip that snaps onto the pins. These are commonly found on older drivetrains or on single-speed bikes. To remove these types of master links, use thin-tipped needle-nose cutting pliers, for example Park Tool NP-6.
