A childs body is very sensitive to the loss of body fluids and the risk of dehydration is higher than in adults. When exercising in a humid and warm environment, children tend to be at greater risk than adults. Dehydration reduces not only performance but is also a health risk, and it is therefore necessary to replace these losses continuously.

Children do not have a fully developed sense of thirst, sweat production is lower and contains fewer Na+ and Cl- ions. For this reason, less concentrated drinks with lower osmolality are used to hydrate children. Children must drink sufficiently before starting physical activity, then every 10–15 min during the activity, and after it ends replace the losses of fluids and energy. The resulting sporting performance of not only adults but also children depends on optimal hydration.

For the regular training of children, we recommend the hypotonic drink Penco ©Junior Sport Drink, with an osmolality lower than that of normal blood plasma, for quick rehydration. An isotonic drink (approx. 300mOsm/kg) is suitable for prolonged high-intensity efforts.
