Marin Alpine Trail E1 BOSCH CX (red/black)

The Alpine Trail E (Bosch) is our largest and most powerful family of bikes. It takes things a step further than the Alpine Trail E models. The new Alpine Trail E Bosch eMTBs are built on completely new Series 4 aluminium MultiTrac 2 LT frames, which bring significant improvements for riders who are not afraid of the toughest and most technical terrain, as well as for those who demand maximum range.

We have increased travel by 10 mm at both ends, now 170 mm at the front and 160 mm at the rear, and relocated the pivots on the chainstays to ensure the required quality and adjustability of the suspension with the longer travel. Riders can change the head tube angle by +/- 0.75° by shifting the lower headset cup, while the BB height / chainstay length is adjusted with the flip chips on the seatstay.

The Bosch Performance Line CX drive delivers 85 Nm of torque and is powered by a high-capacity PowerTube battery of 750 Wh, securely housed in the frames down tube. This battery is the largest in the Marin range, for the biggest adventures.

The Alpine Trail E1 (Bosch) is equipped with quality Marzocchi suspension with a coil spring at the rear, an innovative 10-speed Shimano CUES drivetrain and Tektro Slate EVO brakes with four-piston calipers and 203 mm x 2.3 mm rotors for maximum braking control.

SERIES 4 ALUMINUM FRAME

Alpine Trail E models are built upon our Series 4 aluminium frames, with detailed forgings, highly manipulated tubes and full internal cable routing, giving the rider the highest-end alloy frame that Marin offers, compatible with modern coil or air shocks.

MULTITRAC SUSPENSION

Marin developed the all-new Series 4 aluminium frame in conjunction with the new human-powered Alpine Trail models and notable new features shared between the platforms. Firstly, travel has been increased by 10 mm at both ends, now standing at 170 mm (f) and 160 mm (r), which is also an increase of 10 mm beyond the current Shimano-equipped models. MultiTrac 2 LT ("Long Travel", 150 mm+), with rear pivots relocated from the seatstays to chainstays, makes its eMTB debut and delivers the suspension performance and tunability demanded of the longer travel. With MultiTrac 2 LT, the benefits of relocating the rear pivot points from the seatstay to the chainstay become apparent, as it reduces anti-rise, allowing for better chassis control while braking, more mid-stroke support, and better feel at bottom out. Furthermore, relocation of the pivots provides the added benefit of allowing for adjustable chainstay lengths and bottom bracket heights. Ultimately, it is a better-riding, better-performing suspension system made possible by the new pivot placement.

The Shimano-equipped Alpine Trail E features the same great, proven MultiTrac suspension technology, but optimised for the Shimano STEPS system. With this combination there is no need for platform or lockout levers, just get on and blast up the hills. 160 mm front / 150 mm rear travel.

ADJUSTABLE GEOMETRY

Adjustable geometry features are new to the Alpine Trail E Bosch models – integrated chainstay flip chips and an adjustable headset yield six possible configurations to best suit a variety of trails.

Flip chips are easy to reconfigure trailside and are quickly changed using a 6 mm hex wrench. They require no additional parts and incorporate laser-etched graphics that indicate the position of the chips. Furthermore, the flip chips located at the seatstay pivots alter the bottom bracket height and chainstay length (low BB/long CS setting = 347/443 mm, high BB/short CS setting = 352/435 mm) so that riders can perfectly dial their bike in to match the terrain they are looking to conquer.

Finally, using our proprietary headset cups and inserts, the head tube angle can be adjusted to +0.75° or -0.75° from the standard 63° position, giving the rider three options to best suit their preferences.

MIXED WHEEL SIZES

29" front and 27.5"+ rear wheel sizes are the ideal combination for the Alpine Trail E, with the larger front wheel easily rolling over almost any trail obstacle and offering the best cornering traction, while the burly 27.5" rear setup adds playfulness and enhances acceleration and braking traction.

PROTECTION

Shimano models: A stout and durable rubber guard protects the chainstay, while a durable and replaceable guard on the leading edge of the drive unit keeps the internals safe from whatever the rider is likely to kick up on the trail. CushCore inserts enhance tyre performance and traction while also protecting the rims on the Alpine Trail E2 and E1 models.

Bosch models: Chainstays and seatstays are protected with durable rubber guards that minimise noise and protect paint finishes. Made from a 30% fibreglass-infused nylon, similar to what is used on safety and football helmets, the moto-inspired integrated downtube guard helps deflect errant rocks, logs or anything else riders may encounter on the trail. This guard also includes drain ports to let moisture flow from the frame. Cable ports are of an all-new design and keep the frame innards sealed. These ports use rubber membranes punctured during initial assembly and seal around the housing or hose once inserted. Out at the wheels, CushCore inserts enhance tyre performance and traction while also protecting the rims on both models.

DROPPER POST OPTIMIZED

The modern-day trail rider needs the saddle out of the way at times, while low-slung frames require longer-length posts. On the Alpine Trail E, seat tube lengths have been minimised, along with minimum insertion depths, so that riders of all sizes can get the proper extension needed.

Suspension Setup

REAR SHOCK SETUP

Recommended Sag = 30%/19.5mm

Step 1: Set correct pressure in rear shock.

Step 2: Sit on the bike and cycle the suspension (*with correct riding gear).

Step 3: Reset O-ring and sit on the bike, DO NOT BOUNCE, carefully step off.

Step 4: Measure sag (from o-ring to seal of shock). If it does not match the bikes recommended sag in millimetres, repeat the process.

Step 5: Adjust the rebound setting to ensure proper control.

FORK SETUP

Marin recommends that front and rear suspension on all bikes feel balanced

Step 1: After rear sag is set, follow the recommended pressure from the fork manufacturer.

Step 2: Bounce evenly up and down on the bike, cycling the suspension up and down to make sure both front and rear suspension feel balanced. If the front does not match the rear, add or release pressure.

Step 3: Once the bike feels balanced, adjust the rebound damping to ensure proper control.
