As the name suggests, these are road built wheels with a rim depth of 45 mm. With this and other parameters they fall into the category of very versatile wheels that are fast on the flats yet will not hold you back on steep climbs either, thanks to their low weight of 1435 g. An internal rim width of 19 mm, an external width of 28 mm, aero spokes and the most sophisticated tubeless system on the market are further details that complete this functional whole. But to reveal what is truly special about these wheels, lets take a slightly deeper look.

Mavic Fore Carbon technology

The most fundamental innovation that the carbon rims have undergone is the implementation of a unique tubeless system, which we know from some Mavic aluminium models. Fore Carbon technology uses external nipple attachment, so the inner wall of the rim stays continuous. When using the tubeless system there is therefore no need to install tubeless tape. This system brings several advantages at once. First, the whole rim is stiffer, which contributes to better power transfer, and at the same time the user is spared all the worries associated with tubeless tape, which is completely absent here. And life is once again a little easier.

If you prefer the classic tube-type system, nothing stands in your way in this case either. Another pleasant step is the use of spokes of the same length for the front and rear wheel, which helps with trouble-free identification when they need replacing. Mavic went even further in development, and thanks to the design of the Infinity hubs a spoke can be replaced without removing the wheel from the frame/fork, and you do not even have to take off the tyre or remove the cassette or the disc.

Hubs in a new look

The new design called Infinity catches the eye at first glance. But what positives does it actually bring? First, it applies technologies that have proven themselves on the latest generation of Mavic built wheels, such as the Mavic ID360 freehub system with a double ratchet and the maintenance-free QRM Auto system for automatic bearing play adjustment. What makes the new hubs truly exceptional, however, are once again the details.

Improved aerodynamics

As for the greatest enemy of speed, namely air drag, the NACA-designated rim profile comes into play, which at the same time guarantees high stability in crosswinds. Wind tunnel testing showed that ideal properties are achieved in combination with tyres 25 mm wide. The limit width is then the exact swap of those two digits, i.e. 52 mm.

And there are even finer details. Innovation has not bypassed the nipples either. They have a rounded shape and have twice the diameter we have seen so far. This innovation has only a minimal effect on aerodynamics, but it offers a smoother shape than their predecessor had.
